The Save Wallum Poetry Slam was an extraordinary success, filled with creativity, laughter, and a sense of community.
Held at the legendary Brunswick Picture House, the venue was alive with energy as 17 talented contestants delivered remarkable performances, of all original works.
In the crowds eye each performer was a winner, each poem was outstanding. But ultimately, Vincent Stead emerged as the deserving winner. However, the night’s triumph extended far beyond just the competition—it was a true celebration of the collective spirit supporting the Save Wallum cause.
One of the most exhilarating aspects of the evening was the news received just hours earlier: the court case surrounding the controversial Wallum development had been delayed from October 2024 to February 2025. This significant update buoyed the event’s already high spirits, transforming the Poetry Slam into both a fundraiser and an impromptu celebration of this legal reprieve.
It's important to highlight the incredible contribution of the evening’s hosts and special guest poets.
CanD Flotsam and Dr Barbie Galore were not only wonderful as hosts, but they also infused the event with their vibrant energy and quick-witted humour, ensuring everyone felt welcome and entertained.
Special guest poets Daniel "Triple Nip" Pearson and Beth Wakeling, aka Beth the Barber, delivered remarkable performances.
Daniel’s bold, thought-provoking verses captured the audience, while Beth’s poetic elegance made her performance unforgettable. Their artistry added a layer of depth and creativity to the event, perfectly complementing the spirit of the night.
